Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions we get most often, from the difference between soft-canned and freeze-dried food to how to order as a company.
Soft-canned food is ready-cooked and needs no water. You can eat it cold or heated, and it is a reliable reserve in the emergency kit, the car and your pack. Freeze-dried food weighs little, so you can carry food for several days of hiking. You pour water straight into the pouch and eat a proper meal without cooking. Choose soft-canned food if you have no water, and freeze-dried when every gram in your pack counts.
Soft-canned food is heated unopened with a heating bag or in a water bath, but it can also be eaten cold. Freeze-dried food needs no heat: pour water straight into the pouch. Hot water is quickest, but cold works too.
The food is made for long-term storage. Freeze-dried meals in tins typically have a 25-year shelf life and suit an emergency store. The shelf life of each product is stated on the packaging.
The Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency (MCF) recommends that every household should be able to manage for at least 7 days in a crisis, without electricity, water or food shops. Read more about emergency preparedness for a week .
